Bulk edit product descriptions on Shopify

Append, strip or rewrite parts of the description on a filtered set of products — including inside the HTML, when the change is a block rather than a sentence.

You will be redirected to the Shopify app store.

Descriptions accumulate claims that expire: a delivery promise, a promotion, a care instruction that changed with the supplier. Leaving them in place is a customer-service problem long before it is an SEO one.

The description editor works on plain text or on HTML, so you can append a formatted block as well as swap a phrase.

Description operations

  • Find and replace — in text or in HTML.
  • Add to the beginning — a warning, a lead paragraph or a formatted notice.
  • Add to the end — shipping, sizing or care blocks appended consistently.
  • Remove text — take out an expired promotion.
  • Change to — replace the description entirely where it is boilerplate.
  • When you write HTML, wrap it properly — the app inserts what you give it.

Strip an outdated claim from every description that still carries it.

You will be redirected to the Shopify app store.

Scoping description edits

  • By description — contains or does not contain, to find the products carrying the old text.
  • Where description is empty — products that were imported without one.
  • By product type — append care instructions only to the categories that need them.
  • By vendor — supplier-specific wording.
  • By collection for a campaign block.

A worked example: remove an expired delivery promise

  1. Filter: description contains “Next-day delivery on all orders”.
  2. Editor: description → remove text “Next-day delivery on all orders”.
  3. Editor: description → add to the end, an HTML block with the current delivery terms.
  4. Preview the affected products, run the task, and check two or three product pages on the storefront.

Why HTML mode matters

Shopify stores the description as HTML. Replacing a phrase that happens to sit inside a tag can leave broken markup if you treat the field as plain text, which is why the editor lets you work explicitly with HTML when the change is structural.

As always, the previous description is stored, so a bad replacement is one revert away rather than a restore-from-backup afternoon.
