Bulk edit product status on Shopify

Publish a season, hide a discontinued range or archive dead stock — as one filtered task rather than a morning of clicking.

You will be redirected to the Shopify app store.

Status decides whether a product is visible at all: active products are on the storefront, drafts are invisible, archived products are out of the way but still in your records.

Seasonal catalogs move products between these states constantly, and doing it by hand is both slow and easy to leave half-finished.

Status operations

  • Change to active — publish a range on launch day.
  • Change to draft — hide products without deleting them.
  • Change to archived — retire a line you no longer sell.
  • Combine with a scheduler start time so a range goes live at a set moment.

Schedule a collection launch instead of staying up for it.

Choosing what to publish or hide

  • By inventory quantity — draft anything that has been at zero for a while.
  • By tag — the usual marker for seasonal ranges.
  • By collection — publish an entire collection at once.
  • By vendor — hide a supplier’s products while a contract is renegotiated.
  • By created or published date — retire an old season.

A worked example: launch a collection at midnight

  1. Filter: collection is “Autumn drop”, status is equal to draft.
  2. Editor: product status → change to active.
  3. Scheduler: start at 00:00 on launch day.
  4. Run it. The products appear on the storefront at the scheduled minute.

Draft, not delete

Drafting keeps the product, its handle, its history and its reviews; deleting throws them away and breaks the URL. For anything that might come back next season, draft or archive.

Because the task stores the previous status, reverting puts a range back exactly as it was.
